Our story

Shahana means regal. We named ourselves after the people we photograph.

A bride in black and white, lit by a single window
The first frame we ever hung on a wall.

Chapter one

It began with a photograph of a bride who was not looking at the camera.

Hussain had been photographing weddings for years the way everyone did: the stage, the sofa, the line of relatives, the smile held for three seconds too long. The families were happy. He was not. The pictures were correct and said nothing.

Then, at a nikah in Lahore, he stepped away from the stage and found the bride alone by a window, waiting to be called. The light fell across half her face. She did not know he was there. He made one frame.

That photograph is the reason this studio exists. It was the first time a family looked at a picture of their daughter and went quiet. We have been chasing that silence ever since.

IIWhat we believe

01

The light is already there.

A Lahore haveli at four in the afternoon. A marquee in Islamabad the moment the generators go quiet. A mother's face when the dupatta is lifted. We do not bring light to a wedding. We wait for it, and we are ready when it comes.

02

A wedding is not a list of events.

Mehndi, baraat, walima: these are the chapters, not the story. The story is in what happens between them. The grandfather who arrives early and sits alone in the empty hall. The bride's sister fixing a pin no one else noticed. That is what we are there for.

03

Restraint is a form of respect.

We photograph families at their most open, and we treat that as a trust. No frame is ever posted without permission. No moment is ever manufactured for a camera. The work is quiet because the subject is sacred.

04

It should look like a film because it will be watched like one.

Our films are cut to be sat down for, with the lights off and the phones away. Every colour is graded by hand. Every sound is the sound of the room. Nothing is added that was not there, which is why it stays true for decades.

A ceremony on a clifftop lawn above the sea

We take on a small number of weddings each season. Not because we are precious about it, but because the work we want to make cannot be made by a team that is tired.
